Welcome to QuitRunway. We built this tool because we believe everyone deserves to make confident career decisions based on their financial reality—without sacrificing their privacy.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use QuitRunway. We take your privacy seriously and are committed to transparency.

2. What Data We Collect (and Don't Collect)

2.1 Financial Scenario Data (Server Storage)

When you use QuitRunway's calculator, you enter financial information such as:

• Savings amounts
• Monthly income and expenses
• Severance pay
• Expense breakdowns
• Scenario names and notes

Important: This data is stored securely on QuitRunway's servers and associated with your account.

• Free accounts: Store up to 3 scenarios
• Pro accounts: Store unlimited scenarios
• Account required: You must create an account (email/password or Google Sign-In) to save scenarios
• Cross-device access: Access your scenarios from any device when logged in
• Data encryption: All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest
• Regular backups: Data is backed up regularly to prevent loss

Your financial data is never shared with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

2.2 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Email address: For account login, password resets, and important service notifications
• Password (hashed): If using email/password authentication (we never store plain-text passwords)
• Account preferences: Theme settings, notification preferences

2.3 Google Sign-In Data (Optional)

If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive the following information from Google:

• Email address: Your Google account email
• Google user ID: A unique identifier for authentication
• Profile information: Name and profile picture (if you choose to share)

Google Sign-In is completely optional. You can use email/password authentication instead. By using Google Sign-In, you agree to Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

2.4 Analytics Data (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics to understand how users interact with QuitRunway's service. Data collected includes:

• Page views: Which pages you visit and how long you spend on them
• Interactions: Buttons clicked, features used (aggregated data)
• Device information: Browser type, operating system, screen size
• General location: Country/region (not precise location)

Important: We do NOT send your financial scenario data to Google Analytics. Only usage patterns are tracked.

• Data is anonymized and aggregated
• No personally identifiable information (PII) is shared
• Used solely to improve user experience and product features
• You can opt out using browser settings or Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on

2.5 Payment Information (Pro Subscribers)

If you subscribe to QuitRunway Pro, we use Stripe to process payments. We never see or store your credit card information. Stripe handles all payment data according to their Privacy Policy.

We only receive:

• Confirmation that payment was successful
• Your email address (to send receipts and manage your subscription)
• Transaction ID (for support purposes)
• Subscription status (active, canceled, past due)

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the data we collect to:

• ✅ Provide and improve QuitRunway's functionality
• ✅ Store and sync your financial scenarios across devices
• ✅ Authenticate your account and maintain login sessions
• ✅ Process subscription payments and send receipts
• ✅ Fix bugs and technical issues
• ✅ Understand which features are most valuable (aggregate analytics only)
• ✅ Send important service updates and notifications
• ✅ Provide customer support

We will NEVER:

• ❌ Sell your data to third parties
• ❌ Show you targeted ads based on your financial information
• ❌ Share your scenarios or calculations with anyone (except shared scenarios via your explicit action)
• ❌ Use your data for marketing without explicit consent
• ❌ Send your financial scenario data to Google Analytics or other analytics services

4. Data Storage & Security

4.1 Server-Based Storage

Your financial scenarios are stored securely on QuitRunway's servers in a database. This provides:

• Cross-device access: Access your scenarios from any device when logged in
• Data persistence: Your data is not tied to a single browser or device
• Regular backups: We back up data regularly to prevent loss
• Account-based storage: Scenarios are associated with your account

4.2 Security Measures

We implement industry-standard security practices to protect your data:

• Encryption in transit: All data transmitted using HTTPS/TLS encryption
• Encryption at rest: Database encryption for stored data
• Hashed passwords: Passwords are hashed using bcrypt (never stored in plain text)
• Secure authentication: Session tokens with expiration
• Regular security updates: Infrastructure and dependencies kept up-to-date
• Access controls: Strict internal access policies and logging

4.3 Account Deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time:

• All financial scenarios are permanently deleted
• Account information (email, preferences) is removed within 30 days
• Payment records may be retained for 7 years for tax/legal compliance
• Deletion is irreversible—we cannot recover your data after deletion

5. Cookies & Tracking

QuitRunway uses the following types of cookies:

• Essential cookies: Authentication tokens to keep you logged in
• Preference cookies: Remember your theme and display preferences
• Analytics cookies: Google Analytics cookies for usage tracking (see Section 2.4)

We do NOT use:

• ❌ Advertising cookies
• ❌ Third-party tracking pixels (except Google Analytics)
• ❌ Cross-site tracking for marketing purposes
• ❌ Behavioral profiling for ads

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling essential cookies may prevent you from using certain features.

8. Data Retention

We retain different types of data for varying periods:

• Financial scenarios: Retained while your account is active; deleted immediately upon account deletion or scenario deletion
• Account information: Retained while your account is active; deleted within 30 days of account deletion request
• Payment records: Kept for 7 years (legal and tax compliance requirement)
• Analytics data: Aggregated and anonymized by Google Analytics; no retention of individual user data
• Server logs: Retained for 90 days for security and debugging purposes

9. Children's Privacy

QuitRunway is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a minor, please contact us immediately.

10. International Users

QuitRunway is hosted in the United States. If you access our service from outside the US, your data may be transferred to and processed in the US. We comply with GDPR requirements for EU users and maintain appropriate data protection standards.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced via:

• Email notification (if you've provided an email)
• Prominent notice on our website
• Updated "Last modified" date at the top of this page

Continued use of QuitRunway after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
